Becks Goes To L.A.

I’ve seen a Borat last month, a movie where Sasha Baron Cohen plays a Kazakh journalist who goes to United States. The story is in some way funny, scandalous, and finally a little bit sad. At the end Borat came home with a black prostitute, the only person in America he found closer. I mean open and kind. Of course the America from Cohen’s movie is not the real one.

The Borat movie came to my mind when a saw the comments that followed the news about David Beckham’s move to L.A. Galaxy. Beck’s is a great personality and I felt a little bit sad when the press announced his transfer to Major Soccer League as a final step before his retirement.

I disagree with the way that the Europeans see the American soccer. It represents the wrong view that Europeans have about football in other continents. L.A. Galaxy is not the best club in the world, but Los Angeles the best place for David Beckam. He is probably the best ambassador that football might have in United States. And America is the best continent to be David Beckham. To be a personality!

Unlike many Europeans, the American soccer fans do not get drunk only to battle each other after the games. People in United States love sport. So the new home of David gives him a great opportunity to make the soccer more popular in North America.

Beckham is exactly what the American soccer fans deserve. A player devoted to the game. Someone with great spirit who plays for the team. I’m sure he will keep shining in L.A.
